Bosch hosted the OpenChain & Friends event in Stuttgart, Germany, to bring the benefits of systematic and automated open-source software (OSS) management to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly those in the automotive sector. Several attendees, primarily with limited experience in open-source management, gathered at the Haus der Architektur (HdA) Stuttgart and the Bosch plant in Ludwigsburg to connect with experts and discuss key topics including:

  • Practical approaches to OSS management
  • Handling of Software Bill of Materials (SBOMs)
  • Navigating open-source security

This event was a key initiative of the FOSS-LÄND community, focusing on supporting and expanding the open-source ecosystem in the Baden-Württemberg region.

A central element of the event was the Community Marketplace, which fostered networking and collaboration among various regional open-source communities and project representatives. This interactive space facilitated cross-community dialogue and even sparked discussions about future collaborative events.

The agenda included interactive "Ask Me Anything" sessions, expert panels, and deep dives, providing valuable insights for attendees of all levels. Resources and training materials from organizations like the TODO Group and OpenChain were highlighted, offering a starting point and support network for companies looking to improve their OSS management practices.

The event's success was fueled by the strong support of the FOSS-LÄND community, with members contributing time, expertise, and even sponsorship for the subsequent networking event in Stuttgart. This collaborative spirit allowed the event to be offered free of charge to all participants.

We will publish more content insights of the OpenChain & Friends event soon – stay tuned!
